St. Mary’s graduate awarded BK Scholar scholarship | Around The Town

St. Mary’s Catholic School senior graduate, Carissa Kautz, has been awarded a scholarship for $1,000 as a 2020 Burger King Scholar. Kautz has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She is heavily involved in the student body.
Kautz is Vice-President of the student body, Beta Club president and Secretary of the National Honors Society. She also participated in Future Business Leaders of America, Leo Club, 4-H and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is the Varsity Cheer Co-Captain and a two-time All-American Cheerleader and Pin-It Forward recipient. She is a member of the 2020 State Basketball Championship Team and Varsity Track Team.  She was awarded All-Academic Composite Teams in Basketball and Track. Kautz also works as a counselor at the Louisiana Lions Camp and earned Junior Counselor of the year in 2019. She has given more than 650 hours of community service.
Created in memory of Burger King co-founder James W McLamore, the scholarship are awarded to students based on their grade-point average, extracurricular activities and work experience. Four major awards were given, three $50,000 James W. McLamore Whopper Scholarships and one $25,000 King Award. Nearly 2000 students were awarded $1,000 from 50,000 applicants. “In honor of James W McLamore’s legacy, the BK Foundation continues to embrace the potential future leaders and is dedicated to helping students realize their dreams of continuing their education.”
