Mrs. Minnie Louise Varnado Hanby, 85, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, at The Oaks of Louisiana after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date when it is safer for friends and family to gather.
Minnie was a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana and a resident of Shreveport for 65 years. She was a Registered Nurse who loved her 37-year career working with Dr. William H. Haynie, Sr. from the early days at Worley, Cotter and Haynie, until her retirement from Mid City Pediatrics at age 73. She and her husband, Doug, were active members of the Upper Room Sunday School Class at Noel United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. They were also involved in several volunteer activities in their retired years including weekly Meals on Wheels delivery for Volunteers of America of North Louisiana. Minnie was an excellent cook and baker. She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends and grandchildren.
Mrs. Hanby was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Douglas Hanby, by two days. Minnie and Doug enjoyed doing everything together in life and their departing this world in such a short time apart is a testament of their close bond.
Minnie is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hanby Brandeburg (Michael) of Shreveport; son, Todd Hanby (Shari) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Matthew and Rebecca Brandeburg, and Allison and Scott Hanby.
The family requests that memorials be made to Volunteers of America of North Louisiana, 360 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA 71101, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
