The Sabine Parish School Board has named Kowonno Greene to fill the vacant Ward 4 -District 4 seat previously held by Roderick Davis Sr. who recently resigned. Such action took place during a special called meeting on Monday, April 27. Due to the current lockdown, the meeting was held via video streaming on the school board’s FACEBOOK page.
Greene’s appointment was not unanimous. Those giving the nod to Greene were Terrell Snelling, Ronald Garcie, Donald Remedies, Genevieve Gordon, Spencer Faust and Daron Chandler. Board member Dr. Leah Byles voted in favor of candidate Robert Hable.
Greene will be sworn into office at a later date, and he will fill the seat until the next election.
A 1999 graduate of Many High School and lifelong Sabine Parish resident, Greene joined the U.S. Navy where he received an Honorable Discharge. He then joined the Naval Reserve and later transferred to the LA National Guard where he currently serves.
While deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, Greene earned an AGS degree in Criminal Justice from Northwestern State University. He also earned an AAS degree in Intelligence Operations Studies from Cochise College in 2016.
He currently owns and operates Greene’s Handyman Services, LLC that specializes in home repairs and small construction projects.
Others eligible candidates applying for the position were Kelvin Gosey and Colette Parson. A fifth candidate was eliminated as he did not live in the district, said board president Snelling during the meeting.
