The Sabine Parish School Board is seeking applicants to fill the Ward 4 -District 4 vacancy on the Board following the resignation of Roderick Davis, Sr.
Davis Sr. reportedly resigned from the board as part of a plea agreement earlier this year when he pled guilty to charges of Medicaid fraud while working for the Sabine Association for Retarded Citizens (SARC).
Roderick Davis Sr., his son Roderick Davis Jr., both of Many, and daughter Athena Mitchell, 20, of Shreveport, were arrested in September 2019 and charged with Medicaid fraud. Additionally, Davis Sr. was charged with one count of exploitation of the infirmed. Davis Jr. and Mitchell were also charged with criminal conspiracy.
SARC is a Medicaid-funded facility that provides jobs, educational work training for disadvantaged citizens. SARC has daytime programs as well as residential community homes. In February 2020, Davis Sr. pleaded guilty in exchange for the charges against his children being dropped.
Anyone interested in serving on the Board for Ward 4- District 4 should submit a letter of interest and resume addressed to Board President Terrell Snelling, by April 23. Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age, be able to read and write, and must have resided in the district for at least one year.
Submissions can mailed to the Sabine Parish School Board office at 695 Peterson St., Many, LA 71449, or dropped through the Board’s office door mail slot.
The Board will appoint a new member on Monday, April 27. An election to fill the remainder of the unexpired term will be held Nov. 3.
