There are now 18,283 coronavirus cases in the state, which is 1,253 more than yesterday, according to the latest update from the Louisiana Department of Health,.
Of that number, state health officials report 702 Louisianians have died as a result of the virus.
Additionally, 2014 COVID-19 patients remain in hospitals, with 473 of them on ventilators, which is down from yesterday’s 490.
Louisiana remains fifth in the nation for coronavirus cases. Leading the U.S. are New York, New Jersey, Michigan and California.
Orleans, Jefferson, East Baton Rouge, Caddo, and St Tammany parishes continue to lead the state in the number of cases. Tensas remains coronavirus free.
The nationwide total is 432,433, an increase of 3,381 from the day before. Globally there are close to 1.6 million cases with 94,573 deaths. Those recovered from the virus total 348,319.
