Sabine Parish inmate dies after hanging himself in jail cell | Around The Town

A 40 year old Robeline man is dead after hanging himself Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Ronny Richardson has identified the man as John Allen Martinez Jr. 

Martinez was in jail after being arrested earlier this month  for allegedly attempting to kill his brother during an altercation in Zwolle. Martinez was alone in his jail cell at the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Authorities said Martinez tied the sheet in a “simple knot” and attached it to a hanger that stuck out about 2 inches from the wall. Martinez’s body was sent to a Shreveport hospital for an autopsy.
