Officials with the City of Natchitoches has called for a community update regarding the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak to be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Listach Conference Room at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center located at 501 Keyser Avenue in Natchitoches.
While there is only one confirmed presumptive case of the corona virus in the state of Louisiana (Orleans Parish) at this time, city officials believe it would be beneficial to inform the citizens, employers, and local officials of our community what to expect in the event the virus does spread to our area as well as what precautionary measures should be followed. Presumptive cases mean a person is presumed to have an illness but will still need further testing to positively confirm they have the virus.
Due to the severity of the situation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to provide updated information as it becomes available as well as focusing on containing the spread and mitigating the impact of this virus. The CDC is encouraging local officials to accelerate preparedness response plans in the event there is an outbreak in our area.
