Burial will follow in Fort Jesup Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2020 at 5:00 PM at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel, Many, LA.

Dan was born on Tuesday, November 8, 1951 in Vancouver, WA to Blaine Haigh and Juanetta Speer. He grew up roaming the woods of Oregon, until moving to Killeen, TX and graduated high school.

Shortly after high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country working as an aircraft and engine mechanic in Fort Wainwright, AK. He was honorably discharged in January 1978, and moved to Many to be near his mother and step-father, who was stationed at Fort Polk.

Using the skills he learned in the army, he began his career as an auto mechanic, working at Lowrey Chevrolet for many years. It was early in his career where he met and married his wife, Karen, in 1980. The two started a family and settled down, making Many their permanent home. In 1992, Dan accepted a position as the automotive instructor at the Trade School in Many, until retiring 20 years later.

After retiring, he built an automotive shop behind his house, where he continued his passion of working on cars. He always had a project he was working on, in his spare time.

Although his family was never able to take many vacations, his devotion to them was tremendous. He worked tirelessly, making sure his wife and children had everything they ever needed.

When his wife, Karen, became sick, he never left her side, never wavering in his love for her. Her untimely death in 2012, shattered his world, until he met Kathryn, who helped to piece it back together.

He will be missed and forever be known as “Mr. Dan – the Mechanic”, but to his family, “Papa”.
