James Antee

JAMES WILLIAM ANTEE JR.

James William Antee Jr., 61, was born Jan. 5, 1959, in Natchitoches to the late James William “J.W.” Antee Sr. and Dorothy J. Lawrence Antee. He is the grandson of the late Joseph Antee of Los Angeles, Calif., the late Bertha Wiggins of Natchitoches and the late Sam Lawrence Sr.

He was married to April Williams who preceded him in death.

“Jun” as we affectionately called him, moved to San Diego at the age of six with his mother and brother. He attended Emerson Elementary School, Marston Jr. High and Clairmont High in Clairmont, Calif. Upon graduation in 1977, he went to work for Salk Institute for 12 years taking care of the animals. His next job was with the Employment Development Department for the State of California for 23 years.

He suffered a stroke July 14, 2012, and passed away Jan. 8, 2020, at the Pacific Palms Nursing Home in Long Beach, Calif

Jun was a lover of baseball from Little League through high school and even adult games.

My job did not allow me to attend many of his games, so one day I said to him, “You hit a home run and I will give you $5.” When I returned from work he was sitting on the curb in front of the apartment still in his uniform and said, “Mom, I hit two home runs today.” I had to fork over $10 which put a dent in our budget.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother and stepfather, David and Dorothy Shumpert; daughter, Janese Antee; stepdaughter, Antenea Williams; grandson, Drayden Valentine in Long Beach; two sisters, Carla Antee and Sherilyn Shumpert; two brothers, Gregory Antee and Eric Shumpert; aunts, Lusetta Anthony, Lucille Remo and Betty Wiggins; uncle, Joe Wiggins; and 10 nieces and nephews.
