Sammy Hopkins, Sr.- Obituary Around The Town


Sammy Hopkins, Sr. age 84, passed away on November 26, 2019 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mr. Hopkins was born to Samuel Bennett and Ruby Johnnie Tittle Hopkins on August 29, 1935 in Thornton, Arkansas. After graduating from Thornton High school he joined the Air Force. Once returning home he made his living as an electrician at the local IBEW 194. He married his sweetie in 1958 and they went on to have four kids. He was a member of the Masonic lodge #403 and was a Shriner for a number of years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. Everyone that loved him called him “Pop”.
Pop was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Beverly Jean Hopkins; parents; and a host of brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Samuel Carlton Hopkins, Jr. and wife Shannon, Jeff Hopkins, Lita Delay Hopkins and her special friend Janice Dailey, James Robert Hopkins; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Gaspard and husband Corey, Alexa Gabrielle Thompson and husband Dustin; great grandchildren, Katelynn Wright, Trace Wright, Frankie Wright, Ensley Thompson, Piper Thompson, Poppi Thompson; and siblings, Margaret Birdwell and husband Carl, Richard Mutter, Sr..
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2019, at the Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Open Range Fellowship Church, 9950 US-80, Greenwood, LA. Brother Jerry Steele will be officiating the service. Graveside services will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, LA.
Honoring Sammy Hopkins, Sr. as pallbearers will be Richard Mutter, Jr., Scott Mutter, David Birdwell, Austin Horstman, Charlie Johnson, and Ray Morton.
