Outpatient Medical Center Inc. (OMC Inc.) has officially acquired DeSoto Healthcare Center Inc. (DHC) rural health center in Mansfield, Louisiana. The two non-profit health systems came together as a result of shared community service mission, vision and values and through this acquisition, both entities will use their strengthened assets to expand primary care access and diversity to their valued DeSoto and surrounding parish community families. Outpatient Medical Center Inc. will continue to operate DeSoto Healthcare Center Inc. as rural health center as a company subsidiary up to and through such time as the Center is formally recognized as part of its Federally Qualified Health Center network. Outpatient Medical Center Inc., one of the state’s oldest Federally Qualified Health Center networks, has been in existence since 1977 and its health system service umbrella consists of health centers in Vernon Parish (Leesville), Madison Parish (Tallulah), Natchitoches Parish (Natchitoches) and DeSoto Parish (Mansfield). With this acquisition, Outpatient Medical Center Inc. will now operate 5 multi-million dollar health centers; an increase of two over the last two years.

DeSoto Healthcare Center Inc. (DHC) currently provides family primary care services to patients of all ages staffed by board certified health professionals and friendly, courteous support staff. Other specialty services provided are CDL physicals, well child screenings (formerly KIDMED), prescription assistance programs and discounts on office visits and lab cost. Patients enrolled in any of the Louisiana Managed Care Organizations, Medicare, Medicaid, most major insurances and private-pay (discounts available) are accepted. A sliding fee scale is also available for those who qualify based on household income criteria. Extended office hours are available until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon every other Saturday. DHC utilizes a ONC certified electronic health record system to provide enhanced technology ensuring protection of patient records and secured patient accessibility to online diagnoses, appointments, medications and lab results.

Outpatient Medical Center Inc. plans to expand the diversity of services offered in DeSoto parish in a number of ways. Initially, Outpatient Medical Center, Inc. plans to offer Medicaid, Medicare and Marketplace assistance to those who need help securing, re-applying or situating their health insurance. They also plan to bring the Change Your Lifestyle; a CDC sponsored program designed to help pre-diabetics improve their eating and exercise habits to prevent diabetes to DHC. OMC is the only FQHC in the state of Louisiana who received this $500,000 CDC grant and OMC is the only FQHC in the state of Louisiana with a diabetes program recognized by the CDC. Additionally, OMC plans to bring integrated Behavioral Health Services, Urgent Care and Dental Services to DHC. Dr. Dee Morris, former Chief Executive Officer of DHC stated:”This was a natural merging opportunity given the shared community mission, vision and values of our health systems. DHC becoming a part of OMC Inc. will expand OMC Inc.’s service delivery system into DeSoto parish and position DHC to further our respected community primary care services footprint.” Carl I. Walters II., Chief Executive Officer, OMC Inc. stated: “ Dee and I would like to thank each of our company Board of Directors, the State, the Federal government and our dedicated staff for coming together to make this acquisition happen – for the good of our valued DeSoto and surrounding parish community families. All DHC staff will stay in place and continue to provide the exceptional, compassionate and professional care they are known and respected for providing. OMC Inc. will be moving to expand DHC’s primary care access by adding additional primary care providers at the health center in short order. We applaud Dr. Morris for her vision and the community’s support of DHC; which OMC Inc. respects and is committed to building upon. We come extending the hand of partnership with all DeSoto parish community stakeholders and families and with the vision of working with all DeSoto parish healthcare partners to further strengthen primary care services access in DeSoto parish.
